This
is my new friend Greg who came to my USC lecture by ways of my
friend Steph. Very cool guy. He also came to see the screening!
|
 |
Yoshiko
of USC who asked me to lecture there and Engie, a student who followed
me around as Fannie Wong on campus to take polaroids and pour shots. |
 |
My
friend Derek who drove from Cerritos to see me lecture. That's
not his vagina, that's a carefully placed VAG puppet.
Derek
is also my karaoke buddy. He sings good country.
|
 |
At
the VC opening I showed up as Fannie Wong. It was a hit. The best
thing is that the real Miss Chinatown Court was there. Looks like
I have some new friends out of that!
This
is Jeff Liu who is in this short I saw called "Beautiful"
where he wears a dress and lipsyncs to this annoyingly catchy
song called "Like a moth to a flame". It's this great
gay fantasia of a short. He also co-wrote "Charlotte
Sometimes"-- this movie coming out that has the most
creepy crawly trailer.

Abe
of VC at the big fancy director's lunch hosted by the DGA at Pinot's
in Hollywood. He is holding up the menu and acting cool. He introduced
most of the programs at VC and would always do it nodding his
head and acting gangsta lean and say something like, "What's
up people? Yea!".
Abe
actually lives at the VC office. He denies it, but it's true.

This
is the world famous Tuan who coerced me to dress up like Axl Rose
for the MTV Photobook gig I never got. I am not mad at him or anything.
We are so happy because we are at that big fancy DGA lunch together.
We both directed shorts. Tuan directed a short his girlfriend, Kelly,
wrote. It is about a girl with an eating disorder. My friend Eddie
Mui is in that, and it's the first time I have seen him kiss
a girl in a movie and didn't laugh out loud, "Oh my god! Look
at Eddie kissing so and so!" So that's a sign of great directing.
It was a great short that I think they should show at schools. |
 |
This
is the photographer, Elisa, who works for the DGA, I thought she
should be in front of the camera with me and Daniel Hsia instead
of taking pictures so much. To the right is Dan Hsia who directed
"How
to do the Asian Squat". He also hates cheese. So much so
that he thought he would devote a documentary to exploring his hate
for cheese. |
 |
Here
I am with Cynthia Liu who directed and wrote "Red
Thread." Another film with Eddie Mui. Eddie kisses Keiko
and it was just really funny to me, like watching your cousins make
out. Not that Cynthia did a bad job, I just think it's funny to
watch people you know make out. Cynthia looks kind of like Keiko
I think. |
 |
This
is David who co-directs the VC festival. He ordered the same food
I did. Fish. Which was ok tasting. The woman next to me is a director
named Ushma (sp?) and she had the ravioli and didn't finish it.
So I asked to finish her plate like the classy person I am. |
 |
This
is me Karin and Leslie. Leslie was the program coordinator for my
fellowship. Me and Karin were the only women in the program. I refer
to our situation as "swimming in a sea of sausage." Me,
Karin and Leslie decided that we would castrate the film industry
together. |
 |
Here
is Cynthia and Jen Phang (my buddy who co-wrote and co-directed
"the Matrices" with Dominic Mah). Jen is beaming something
over to Cynthia with her PDA. |
 |
Here
I am admiring Cynthia's phone/PDA. So high tech. So impressive.
I
also like the way my hair looks in this picture.
|
 |
Here
are Jen and Dom, acting so cool because we are living up the Hollywood
life at Pinot's.
Jen
and Dom's dirty little secret is that they helped write Karaoke
Night(mare)s. The funniest Asian American sitcom ever.
(My
dirty little secret, is that I acted in it.)
|
 |
I
told Dom to give the camera his sexiest "Hollywood Intrigue"
face. And well, there you have it. |
 |
I
used to live with Ham Tran who is an amazing filmmaker. His short,
"The Anniversary" that was shot in Vietnam has won all
sorts of big awards and is up for some kind of Oscar nomination
nomination or something. Let's just say. Big star. He won the
Golden Reel and the Director's award and soon, will win the world.
This
is my feeble attempt to photograph him during the Q&A
What
can I say? I taught him everything he knows about filmmaking.
|
 |
This
is my stalker, Reuben. At Norms at like 1AM after the screenings
on Friday night. He likes to show up at my window at night and watch
me sleep. It's really annoying. |
 |
Carl.
The coolest friend I have in LA, who is not an actor, director,
or Hollywood ladder climber. Just a guy from Vermont who wants to
live on a farm one day. He is also familiar with my pretend 50+
boyfriend Paul
Zaloom. |
 |
Look!
It's me! Inside the Domukon costume that I borrowed from Miles.
Wearing a sandwich board. This was my lame attempt to get attention
for my short the weekend before it played. I walked around the
DGA like this hoping that it would get people interested in my
film. All I got were dirty looks.
This
town is so snobby.
I
am standing next to my friend Howard's Barrelman
sign.
|
 |
This
is Daniel who doesn't know i am under there. That's why he looks
scared. |
 |
Don't
ask. Don't tell. |
 |
This
guy is famous. His name is Ric Young and he plays all the evil
guys in the movies. You may remember him as the Chinese guy with
the eyelids. He's a good actor because he's not evil at all in
real life but pulls it off so well in movies.
I
am wearing the free DGA cap we got at the luncheon. People kept
making fun of me for wearing a the free hat that we just got at
the Directors' luncheon. People said that I needed to wait until
it was more beat up before I wore it. But how can the hat get
beat up looking if you don't wear it? I was so proud of the hat
that I wore it for two days straight until it got all itchy.
|
 |
At
my film screening you may notice I look dramatically different.
It's
because I am wearing make-up. See? A little bit of make-up and
I look female. It's amazing. I also did my hair real cute and
dressed feminine. It was like this total transformation of gender.
Here
is Renato, he was the AD on my shoot. I think this is a great
picture of us.
|
 |
Here
is Arjay. He was Larry's coach. He looks dramatically different
because he is wearing a tie. See what a little adjustment can
do? He looks so professional. And I look like a woman. It was
like Halloween or something.
But
it was just my screening.
|
 |
Vince
(left) even wrote me and said, "You look good in that picture
of us, you should put it on your site." And so here you go.
I thought his comment implied that I look like shit in all the
other pictures we've taken, but it's ok. Vince has a cat and helps
me dub tapes, so I forgive him.
Jeff,
my old schoolmate and Vince's business partner is on the right.
They do great post production work. You can look at their demo
at the Mighty
Big McRocket site.
|
 |
I
was so nervous at my screening but Kim Char held my hand to let
me know it was ok. It was the greatest experience to be introduced
before the screening and have a whole theater of people cheer
for me and the doc. I was so happy.
In
this picture, that damn Dan Hsia got in the way of what was going
to be our perfect couple picture. I will beat him up later for
it.
|
 |
Me
and Larry (who loved the doc!) enjoying a great post-screening.
Look how cute. He wore the shirt from the race.
I
am looking forward to making the doc longer and giving Larry the
full glory he deserves.
|
 |
L
to R (Ziggy, Taylur, Slee, me, Larry, and Jarrett) We are having
a great time outside after the screening. |
 |
Me
and Isaac. He's god's gift to women. The ladies can't resist an
Asian man with facial hair like that. Mmmmm..... |
