Site Update 7.19.03-- Money and trip taking

Wow, thanks to angryasianman.com-- my poverty has been broadcast to over one thousand of his daily visitors. Alas, I didn't realize he was going to cut and paste my email to him verbatim and let the world know, "Kristina, the bigbadchinesemama, is hurting for cash, so buy a shirt from her site." Oh well, three people bought shirts in just a few hours of his blog post. So a little embarassment is a-ok. Thanks Phil.

And don't worrry too much. It's tight, but it ain't too much of an emergency. I'll let you know when that happens. Oh wait, I need to save face. Nah, forget it. I won't tell you when it's that bad.

And isn't that a great segue into this?

Come and buy a shirt from my bigbadchinesemama site! Click on the pics below to go to the order page.

Me and Ryan (the guy who helps me make the shirts) figure we are only 216,920 shirts from a condo in Malibu. Won't you bring us to this dream? Just think, by sporting panties with my url, you bring me one step closer to sipping mai tais and overlooking the shore.

Ok, so in reality, I will just be happy if I can prove to Ryan that my ideas are marketable. Phloe who also has a shirt design selling on blacklava and is kicking both our asses in sales with her plain text shirts. I must match her numbers. I must.

Do you have a blog or web journal or website? Here's my deal for you! Mention my shirts, along with a picture from above, and some lengthy praise about these products on your blog, link the order page, cut and paste me the link, then send me your mailing address and I will send you a Fannie Wong postcard signed by Fannie! Help get traffic to my new stuff!

I am going to SF this week. I need a break. This heat is not letting me get much done except for collapse midday and drag myself around LA. I am going to hang with the family and come back running and screaming, thus tortured. Plus there are no lectures or performance gigs in the summer. Everyone is too sweaty to want to put on theater. Thus making po' and slow-moving the theme this season.

I will update this site some more when I come back next week.

The grossest thing happened yesterday. I cooked spinach. I thought I washed it well. I cooked it in garlic, then when I was eating it, I was like, "What is that rocky crunch in my mouth?" Turns out there were pebbles in the spinach I didn't wash out! NASTY! I will only buy prewashed spinach from now on.

Kim Char says I talk too much private stuff on this site. I was explaining to him that this site is really a lot of "fictionalized reality."  You see, by talking about what seems to be my "personal life" on this site, I create an illusion for you the viewer that I am quite charming. And wouldn't you like to book me for a lecture or performance this fall because I am so charming?

It's all marketing baby. All marketing.

Anyway, he does have a point. Even though I don't think I reveal half of the gossipy personal stuff I could, there is way too much personal stuff on this site.

So from here on out, I will reduce the personal content on the site update page by half!

Unless... my career needs the boost, in which case I will have to go back to spilling my "fictionalized guts" for my audience to increase bookings.

I took the underground metro last night. Did you know that you buy a ticket and it's all honor system? Occasionally there is a monitor on the bus who will find you and fine you $250 if you don't have a ticket. But it's crazy! I can't believe the Metro-- the one place in Los Angeles that trusts you-- kind of. It's a trip to take the metro at night. It's pretty clean. And so un-LA. How sad that LA public transit makes me have such out of body experiences. I have never taken the metro before in LA.

I took the metro to see "The Producers" last night. What a great musical. I love how Martin Short did his "Martin Short-isms" such as spazzing out and running around with his legs all over the place. And Jason Alexander was doing his "George-isms" from Seinfeld, such as being frustrated and waving his arms everywhere. That was great. Our seats were in the back row at the top of the theater. It freaking sucks to have seats so far back. If I had time I would put those pics up from last week. I will do it next week.

My friend Roger who is in the Better Luck Tomorrow movie came over to my house supposedly to hang out. But he manipulated me. As it turns out, he came to watch my infamous ER appearance! Hearing all about it, he said he needed the acting tips I could offer. Oh the deceit! Click here to see him mesmerized by my performance along with new other audience members of my Emmy-worthy performance.

I have close to 250 friends on friendster.com. I know that I am trying to make up for my gawky middle school days by accumulating so many friends. But unlike some of these whorish import models on friendster, I actually know the people who I am linking.

(I wonder if anyone will get on my case for using the word "whorish".)

Kim Char is so cool! He owns the Good Times two season DVD. We have been watching old episodes of it. It's such a good show. I always like how the father is so mad all the time, Florida is always talking about Jesus, and everything Jimmie Walker does such as doing asides to the camera. I've been singing the Good Times' theme song in the car.

Kim Char also owns "Style Wars" about graffiti culture in the early 1980's in New York. We watched that too. It was so good. They have "where are they now" interviewers with all the taggers or "writers" they feature. Most of them are doing things along the same line as then. Like creative based stuff which is cool.

Kim Char also bought me horchata to drink when I go visit. And he bought "Black Knight" on DVD starring Martin Lawrence. Our favorite movie! We were laughing so hard. I watched almost all the behind the scenes stuff. My favorite scene is after he faints watching a real execution. And I also likes how he gets everyone in the castle to sing SLY and the Family Stone.

Horchata. Yum. It's great with a burrito.

The coolest tortilla wrapped guy in town.

Ok, I haven't packed yet, and I have a video class to go to in less than 2 hours! See you next week!

Love,

kristina
