4.4.05 thru 4.13.04-- Asian Pacific Islander Nervous Breakdown Month

Wow it took me almost ten days to write this update!

You know... someone needs to let those people, you know, that strange mysterious panel in the sky that designates months that specifically "celebrate" women, Black History, API heritage, Queerness, poetry, etc... and we need to figure out how to get them to rotate an API Heritage "week" through every month. Heck, let's designate a day each week that will be API focused... or maybe... let's just designate the whole year to celebrate API Heritage!

Yes friends. API heritage month is upon us. It's technically in May but because of school schedules, API Heritage Month events are often scheduled throughout April. I just have returned from a gig in Chicago where I was the "human transition" from Women's History Month (March) to API Heritage Month (April/May). Imagine me with my foot on the calendar square marked "March 29" and my body slung over the last days of March and my hands clinging onto the date marked "April 2"-- that was me!

At least we get a little over a month. Man, African American Heritage month is in February-- the shortest month ever! And I don't even know if American Indians get a month at all.

After I came home from Chicago, I went to Michigan the following weekend where I did a keynote speech for some awesome women. I redeemed myself from that high school keynote.

Then went home again to get some business straightened out.

It's most definitely a blessing in disguise to have April/May as API Heritage Month and be working more than I ever imagined possible in this small time of the year only. In the Fall, I was touring out of town about once every other week, and this month, I am in about five or six cities in one month. There is a week where I hit three cities! Yikes!

And what is happening beyond April and May in gigs land? Nada! Until I come out of the closet full-on or find my secret African roots, or really develop a knack for poetry, I may be doomed to work only in April and May!

I wish touring was as sexy as it sounds. It sorta is sexy to call my friends and be like, "I'm in Chicago. My film is playing here. And I just did a show."

It's pretty stressful though.

Right now I am in Texas. San Antonio. I have a show in Austin on Friday. Then I go home to teach, then off to North Carolina, then a show in LA again, then off to Boston, then San Francisco. Then I twiddle the thumbs again for 11 months until Asian month comes again! I'm exaggerating... or maybe not...

I'm beat. I'm grateful to work doing what I love but I am so beat.

More later.
