4.7.06-- I am doomed to die alone under my yarn stash.

Because I am just that sick and have officially entered the crochet cult, I thought I would do something to age me 20 years. I am posting my yarn stash online.

There goes my street cred I was trying to build for my May 18th performance at the Bay Area Hip Hop Theater Festival. There goes an audience my age. I feel menopausal already.

These are just what I've won on ebay. There's more in my closet that I have yet to photograph....

Oh my god, what is happening to me? If you are reading this, please help me. I have so much yarn and I want more... More I say....

My friend George who works at REDCAT surprised me by buying this book for me off my wishlist...

He decided to forgo my wishlist books on drugs, burningman, and porn to get me literature! Last week I said if you buy me something off my wishlist, in the spirit of giving I will send you a handmade scarf right back! It's still on if you are interested. As you can see, I will not be running our of yarn anytime soon. I'm working on a scarf for him using this stitch-- "the faggot stitch." I will probably do a scarf in the "dirty wetback chink stitch" when he gets me a second book off my list!

I am slowly decreasing my stash. I have enough yarn to last me the next 3-4 years. Here are some projects I have finished...

A scarf for Lorelei at the Asian Arts Initiative in Philly, I made the exact same one for Marian of the Mango Tribe...

A scarf for Marcus' birthday.

A scarf for Vince's birthday.

Here are crochet projects in progress..

-- a furry shrug for Diana's birthday (haven't started it yet)

-- a faggot stitch scarf for Pete's birthday

-- a shrug for my friend Jin's b-day. I think I already f-ed it up. It's hard to use my body as a gauge for someone else's measurements. Especially because she's way smaller than me. I really hope she likes it. It's more work than I thought because I used a really tiny hook.

-- two blankets-- one for my friend's baby and the other for a friend (haven't started those either)

There are sure a lot of birthdays this week! My fingers can't catch up.

Oddly crochet has brought my mother and I closer together. My last blog entry broached the topic and for the first time in a while we sent emails back and forth continuously, as opposed to me ignoring them or being reminded of my young teenage repression and going into reverse Mommy Dearest mode. I thought they were so cute I had to post them.

Her first email...

Subject: I am a hooker too!

Hi K,
Your mom is a hooker too. I just knitted my first square for inclusion
in a baby blanket for our CFO. Now, I am hook! I will attempt to
knit a cap. If you have spare yarn, you can send me some. Your
scarves are beautiful.

Another email....

K,
I think I would like to try a thick one to start. I think I will start
with making a cap for myself first since it'll be like a test model,
then a cap for my mom. She likes reddish colors. For myself, a
magenta or blue-ish color. I don't really know. You can pick for me.
Thanks,
mom

And the frosting....

Don't try the tampon idea. You may end up sick and hospitalized or
worse.

I need to go back to work before the cobwebs around my crotch envelop me.
