Fannie Wong, Former Miss Chinatown 2nd Runner Up

In the aftermath of my first solo theater show “Miss Chinatown 2nd Runner Up,” I realized how frustrating it was to only have ticket paying audience members experience my work. I decided to adopt the persona of cigar chomping, leg humping fast talking beauty queen named “Fannie Wong, Former Miss Chinatown 2nd Runner Up” and crash events that the actual Miss Chinatown Court were at. Fannie would sign autographs, take photos, and do interviews that nobody requested. Fannie was often escorted out of venues.

I was interested in “community celebrities” and how I could invent one without the tedious process of entering a beauty pageant.
